Redecorate Your Dorm for the New Year and New Semester Jan 2, 2008

Product Description

Dorm d├ęcor isn't always all it's cracked up to be. A dorm room is about the size of a postage stamp; you're sharing it with another person; and you're decorating on a budget that would make a homeless person wince. But after a semester of boring dorm decorations, you may be sick of it, and may be looking for some relatively inexpensive decorations that can make the dorm a little happier place to be when you're killing time between classes and studying. Why not bring in the new year with a new style for your room? Here are a few tips for sprucing up your dorm's look for 2008. Make dorm decorations portable As a college student, portability is a huge issue when you're going back and forth between college and home. If whatever you have in your dorm can be bagged or packed back up in a smaller space, you'll be able to fit it into your car more easily. So, when decorating your dorm room, pick things that are going to be easy to transport. One good way to go about this is by getting a bed-in-a-bag set. Not only are they usually more inexpensive than buying comforters, sheets, bed skirts and pillow shams separately, but they're also relatively easy to get from point A to point B. You can also look for collapsible items like laundry hampers and trash cans. They'll stand up to a full size when you need them, and when you need to store them or move them, they'll collapse to a size that's easy to carry and easy to pack. Give your bed some oomph Considering that your dorm bed is probably the largest piece of furniture you have there, it will be the one that makes the biggest impact when decorated. Bed-in-a-bag sets come in a number of different styles, so it will be easy to find one that suits your tastes. You can even find bedding sets with your college team's logo. If you're a sports fan or just want to display your college spirit, that's a great way to go. Seating arrangements If you're looking for an inexpensive, lightweight and portable chair that's actually comfortable, a sphere chair might be the way to go. Not only do they provide good seating, but they can be flattened so that they don't take up as much space when you need to move or store them. Plus, they're trendier than many other chair styles, and the actual seating pad can come in a variety of looks, including your college team's colors and logo, if that's the way you've decided to go. Don't keep your dorm room stuck in the past decades. Make a New Year's resolution to bring your own personal style to the dorm room with a fun look that's inexpensive, creative, functional and portable. With a few minor decorating additions, you may be surprised to find that your dorm can be a happy place to be. About the Author Tony Brobst is the president of Image Bedding.
